Open Software License Agreements
Every software title offered by the PSF carries an Open Source License as defined by The Open Source Initiative (OSI).
According to OSI...
Open source is a development method for software that harnesses the power of distributed peer review and transparency of process. The promise of open source is better quality, higher reliability, more flexibility, lower cost, and an end to predatory vendor lock-in.But for the Public Software Foundation the OSI Open Source Definition, Points 1 and 7, deal directly with what we're trying to do.
Point 1, Free Redistribution
The license shall not restrict any party from selling or giving away the software as a component of an aggregate software distribution containing programs from several different sources. The license shall not require a royalty or other fee for such sale.Point 7, Distribution of License
The rights attached to the program must apply to all to whom the program is redistributed without the need for execution of an additional license by those parties. To define in to plain language is to say that while Open Source Software carries a license, it doesn't restrict the software to one user or one machine. In fact it's saying that it may be freely shared and used by anyone for any reason.
