Libraries

Our keepers of knowledge.

"Technology" is defined as the practical application of knowledge, so it's only natural for libraries to lend software which is designed to be openly shared.

Libraries & Publicly Licensed Software

Since their inception, Libraries have provided access to public documentation and the written word. As time passes, we are now seeing authors writing software specifically created to be freely shared by everyone.

By offering software with non-restrictive licenses to your patrons, you're bringing 21st century technologies to everyone in your community - not just to those who can afford it.

Our job is to make it easy for you.

When you receive a disc from the PSF all you have to do is catalog it and put it on the shelf just as you would any new publication.

You will not have to provide Tech Support! You don't provide tech support for your how-to books and you won't have to provide tech support for the software.

This website contains the necessary information to direct your patrons to available documentation, and support avenues.

If any patron should have questions just direct them to the Resources tab at the top of this website. We've also printed the URL on the back of every case, in a red, text box to emphasize where to find help.

In some cases, there will be local PSF volunteers who will set up workshops and informational meetings for patrons who will need extra help.

Getting started

If you would like to begin lending publicly licensed software, you don't have to wait for us to contact you. We've included all the information on how to get copies for your library.

You can also leave a message in our forums letting potential volunteers know you are looking for a volunteer in your area or even send one of your own volunteers to get up to speed on what we can do for you.

If all else fails, contact us directly and ask if we maybe able to help find someone to volunteer in your area.
