WEBPATH TECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCES FORMATION OF PUBLIC SOFTWARE FOUNDATION

The Public Software Foundation has been created with the goal of making quality publicly licensed software available at public libraries.

Rochester, NY April 9, 2008 – Webpath Technologies today announced the formation of the Public Software Foundation (PSF), a community organization tasked with ensuring quality, open licensed software is available to borrow at libraries world wide.

“I noticed how much libraries and open licensed software have in common,” says Todd Robinson, Systems Developer at Webpath Technologies and founder of the PSF. “They are both share their knowledge freely with others. When Libraries offer software with non-restrictive licenses, everyone in a community will have access to 21st century technologies - not just to those who can afford it.”

The PSF website at http://publicsoftwarefoundation.org and the shelf-ready software packaging have been specifically designed for easy adoption into the library system. Including additional information about software titles and where to get free technical help.

The PSF also carefully selects the titles offered to ensure usability for as many people as possible.

Volunteers are needed to act as local coordinators and Library Liaisons. Those in the open source community who are already familiar with the titles offered by PSF are encouraged to lend a hand.

Volunteers may also use the supplied Donation kits to produce the software discs and packaging for their local library, or help create packaging for additional titles.

People can also obtain a shelf ready disc from our partner On-Disk.com for their own use and then pass it on to the library – knowing if they need it again, they can go check it out.
